The following rituals use Ayurvedic concepts to help balance your Dosha and increase your ability to absorb information during our classes and workshops.
Welcome Vata!
The first step balancing your Vata dosha starts the night before, please allow time to fully rest that evening. Quiet time before bed is essential for your learning experience in the morning.
A Self-Care Ritual of oiling your scalp and body with your favorite oils and scents is a great place to start. This will help keep you grounded and allow your mind to retain the information given.
Massage your scalp and entire body, take a healing bath with candles. Use quiet meditative music or perhaps enjoy my guided meditation that you can download here.
This will prepare your Vata Body-Mind to focus and concentrate and not feel overwhelmed with information in the morning.
During the morning presentation, please have your pot of herbal tea ready. Use maple syrup or honey, water with lime/lemon to sip slowly during the whole class.
If you feel mentally exhausted coming to the class, chewing on raw sweet fennel seeds or adding them to your hot water will help clear the mind and expel gas out of your intestines. Remember, healthy gut, clear mind!
Vata Dosha is balanced with the taste of SWEET. We will learn more in the class on this, I encourage all Vatas to have moist, fatty, rich snacks to chew on during the class.
Things like Dates, figs, soaked dried fruits and seeds, moist cookies or buttered breads, your hot/warmed cereals like oatmeal. Please eat your small meal before the class and have snacks available during the class. Also, make sure to keep hydrated.
Avoid a big heavy breakfast. Snacking is best while learning to help keep your mental energy up. You are like a little bird that needs to pick at this and that. This will keep your attention and help you not get overwhelmed.
If you can, allow time after the class to take a nap. This will help you integrate the teachings deep into your being. It will also help you process and digest the food, thoughts, and ideas that came to you.
Like a bird, you will want to chirp and share the new founded healing wisdom of Ayurveda with everyone!
Start by introducing them to taking the Dosha test, and a natural conversation about all that you learned about your Elemental body will spring out of you like a flowing song!
I look forward to sharing more ways to balance your Vata Dosha with you.
Welcome Pitta!
To help keep your Pitta Dosha in balance it starts the night before. Pitta loves order, organization and being prepared for all life events.
Take time the night before to tackle your “To Do List” so that your mind can feel calm and prepared to receive the transmission of the wisdom of Ayurveda you are so passionate to journey into. Have all that you need ready for your class, pens that work, paper to write on, perhaps even reference books that you want to go into and hi-light.
Pittas, you are great students! Imagine you are attending an Ayurveda University on Life! Having all you need in place, in order, will allow you that space within to “SEE” and enter into the realm of “The SEER”. You will learn in the class that your predominant element FIRE, is connected to the sense of SIGHT. Therefore your deepest healing begins when you give space for your mind to have INSIGHTS, REVELATIONS, EPIPHANIES, VISIONS and AH MOMENTS!!
Take time to visualize the night before. Create a list or vision board of all the areas of Ayurveda that you wish to know, discover and journey into.
The first step starts with Self Observation. Let’s begin this Self Observation the evening before so that your dream time can be a place where space is created to allow the visions to sharpen your Intuition.
Write down these three key questions before bed.
1 What is the predominant emotion in my body-mind lately?
2 Where do I feel this emotion in my body? Chakra? or Zone?
3 What am I searching for? What is the anti-dote that I am searching for? What is the medicine that I am searching for? What is the answer, confirmation (etc.) that I am “SEEKING”?
Answer these questions in the morning.
Then, organize all your study material needs, have your answers to these questions near you during the class so that you can continue to write down your insights and elaborate. Create a space where you will sit to learn. Write, draw or have the word AYURVEDA in front of you so that you can see it.
If you have Ayurveda books, Ayurveda products or anything that connects you to India, Yoga, and even your spiritual items that you have collected on your journey into self-awareness, have them around. To “SEE” is important to the balancing of the FIRE element; we will dive deeper into this in the class.
Create a sacred space perhaps you may wish to read a blog I wrote on this at
AyurvedaRitualsSpa.com/setting-up-your-alter/
Please note that each person’s sacred space is a place for you to connect to your Higher Power, your Faith or spiritual beliefs, healing begins when we SEE our Truth and SEE our Faith, This is vital for Pitta’s learning experience.
Pitta’s are seekers of TRUTH, seekers of KNOWLEDGE. Spiritual pilgrimage and the search of the miraculous is an important part for Pitta types who wish to dive deep. This is especially meant for those educators, therapists, and students who have already learned some of the basics of Ayurveda and may find some foundations repetitive.
Please use your Wisdom Eye and be aware that the SEER within who will begin to see the layers of these complex teachings is being given an opportunity to awaken.
You will begin to “SEE” the layers of Elemental Wisdom, how they manifest everywhere in Creation. You will begin to “SEE” the layers of the Chakras and how these gateways of our consciousness are portals into other layers other spectrums of light! You will begin to “SEE” all the layers beginning to connect to the EARTH and to the UNIVERSE. You will begin to “SEE” Your part in it all!
You will see how that essential oil is connected to a planet and how that planet is connected to a part of your own Cosmic Anatomy. You will see the tapestry of the Three Sister Sciences; Ayurveda, Yoga and Jyotisha, come alive within you!
AWAKEN PITTA your inner Spiritual Warrior on the path of TRUTH and this time it will be YOUR TRUTH , YOUR DHARMA.
Creating a space for you to SEE and not waste time in the organization and get frustrated because you did not find the right pen or have paper or forgot to make that call or prepare your breakfast. Have it all organized the night before.
Pitta loves time management and order. Give yourself that gift. During the class keep hydrated with cool drinks, have fresh fruit and a source of protein. Make sure to feed your FIRE!! Protein is vital for this, and it will give you the fuel you need to digest and process the information.
TRUST the TRANSMISSION of knowledge; please try not to get caught up in the contradictions you may have “SEEN” in the books that you have read about Ayurveda. Or differences that you heard from one teacher to the next.
Avoid comparisons, and avoid asking these questions. Just write them down for you to research after the class. I always recommend for Pitta types to keep a piece of paper for this on the side. My research list, or my check on this later list.
Pittas love to get clear, cross off all your T’S and dot your I’s but there is a place and time for that. During the transmission of new information, give time for it to be felt, heard, experienced and “SEE” what this information creates in you, causes in you and triggers in you. This is SELF OBSERVATION.
WRITE all of your REVELATIONS and INSIGHTS Down! I look forward to taking this SIGHTSEEING journey with you and trust that, like the TIGER that focuses on its target (knowledge and direct experience in Pitta people), you will catch it, Then devour it! Then because it! Now it is “IN” you, and you are “SEEN” as that healer, educator, consultant, executive, director, and now a spiritual warrior. You BECOME IT.
Because you are a being full of knowledge and truth and experience, YOU WILL SHARE IT! The Dharma (Duty/Responsibility) of the Warrior is to protect with the torch of knowledge that will expel all the darkness and ignorance from consciousness.
I look forward to sharing this torch that was passed on to me by the great “SEERS” my teachers (GURUS = expeller of negative thinking, illusions and all that unreal)
Welcome Kapha!
Balancing begins the night before with the practice of MOVEMENT. Kapha people need to be inspired into action!
Find the theme, topic, or practice of Ayurveda that you are most passionate about. As a caregiver, you may be attracted to the treatments offered in Ayurveda.
How to bring that extra nurturing into your treatment room? Allow yourself to discover all the healing modalities that are available in Ayurveda. Do a google search on them or even look at my academy to get inspired further or my YouTube channel.
Your focus will most likely be around the giving, the available modalities that can help you become a skillful healer, teacher, and caregiver to your guests, family, friends and humanity. Ayurveda is all about relationships, and Kaphagenic people have this naturally mastered, putting people and their needs at times before their own.
Therefore the evening before my Kapha tribe, please take time to NURTURE YOURSELF. Nurturing for Kapha folks is different to other Doshas. It begins with discovering or connecting to parts of yourself that you may have been avoiding. Take time the evening before the class to stimulate your body-mind. Take a long walk after dinner. During your walk, ask yourself the following questions.
1 What am I avoiding? is it a part of my body? Is it an emotion that I do not wish to deal with? Is it a person who has triggered me? Is it a thought that disturbs me?
2 What am I doing/using to numb out these feelings, sensations, emotions or thoughts? Am I eating, drinking, or indulging too much? Working too much? Or, am I giving my time and energy to others and neglecting my own needs?
3 What is the CHANGE in my life, in my body and consciousness that I am resisting, avoiding, or ignoring? Is this fear of change causing me to feel stuck, stagnant, or lethargic? What do I need to feel or get INSPIRED into Change?
As you walk, you are moving this block; you are actually not as stuck as you think! You have registered into a class that will cause an inner change. Knowledge expels ignorance, opens up blocks, brings the torch of knowledge to the most stuck part of our consciousness.
This creates natural shifts of consciousness. It is important for Kapha folks to allow themselves to be lifted up in this HOPE, to feel the inspiration and move into it. As you walk another source of MOVEMENT that you can use to support stepping into Hope, Lightness and Joy is MUSIC!
Select your favorite song that makes you want to DANCE, that SEDUCES YOUR SOUL! Have this on your playlist, along with other songs that inspire you! The walking and the listening to the music will motivate your PRANA (your Life Force Energy).
You have a reservoir of this PRANA! This is why you GIVE and GIVE it is your OJAS (Vitality). Now You need this Prana for your learning in the morning! All that is life enhancing will stay with you, and fill you up! Charge you up!!
If you can take your walk in a place where there are many trees, even at night time, let the PRANA of the MOON fill you, the PRANA of the SUN fill you!
Touch the TREES, Touch the planets, smell them, connect to the body of Mother Earth, Allow HER to fill you up with HER PRANA. This is a charge that you need for yourself!!
If you know the Yogic Breath practice called UJJAYA PRANAYAMA or OCEAN BREATH please practice this before your walk and before the class starts
The class is early for Kapha, and your bear-like / elephant-like earth element is slow and heavy. Give yourself uplifting movement, breath of body, consciousness, mind, and spirit to help WAKE up on time, and stay awake during the heavy theory of the class.
Kaphas love practices and doing practical things; they learn by doing. So listening too long may create that natural dullness or cause a shutdown. If your energy body and physical body feel uplifted it will help.
In the morning prepare for your Learning Ritual by getting up early, and follow these steps after you have done your Ocean breathing.
1 Dry brush your body before your shower. It is important to give time to shower in the morning as the Element of Water will be very healing and very energetically charging to your Aura and Body. Invigorating brushing or friction gloves or even jumping in the same spot with your favorite DANCE Music will do the trick.
2 Take a shower, start hot and end it cold. Keep listening to the music, have it loud or near you so that it moves in and out of your body.
3 Spray your body with your favorite Chakra balancing scent, set an intention for yourself that all that you learn will be for YOU first. You will implement all the teachings towards your own self-care practices.
Give permission to yourself to RECEIVE!!! A Well can not be run dry. It is your opportunity to fill your reservoir of PRANA, Vitality and bring Hope and lightness of being to your consciousness, body and energy field.
YOU DESERVE THIS!
HEALER HEAL THYSELF!
During the class you want to eat light so that you avoid those crash naps that fall hard on Kaphas. Staying alert and awake during the class is key in order for you to receive the transmission. The breathing exercises will help with this.
Drink ginger tea with lots of lemon, a little honey, during the class. If you have ginger candy as a snack or something that has a little kick perhaps a chili covered in chocolate or ginger cookie. Give yourself a little treat during the class.
If you have been to Aveda classes before you will find yourself at the treats table often, it is what inspires Kapha the sense of TASTE!!
TASTE is connect to WATER as you will discover in our class, and WATER is your reservoir of DESIRES your Emotionality and your very core being. Your food choices will always be based on how you are feeling. Therefore always be aware of your predominant emotion, and you will know right away what food you begin to crave. Take this opportunity of inspiration that has come over you to learn Ayurveda to make good healthy food choices.
Have a special treat, perhaps something that you picked up for yourself during your walk of inspiration.
If you have wanted to start a good health care program and have been procrastinating then take the initiative and use this weekend to buy all of your healthy food choices and have them ready for your breakfast on Monday!!
Allow yourself to be inspired into the CHANGE. Kapha resists change, and the only way to create change is to become INSPIRED!!
I am so happy that you were inspired enough to join my class and give me the opportunity to share some of my inspirations and self healing secrets that I have personally discovered on my journey into the wisdom of Ayurveda.
May you indulge yourself in SELF NURTURING, SELF-LOVE And ACCEPTANCE.
